Among the repatriates living in Jerusalem there
are not only Jews of Soviet extraction (50,000 of them, though Russian
is not the mother tongue for all of them), but also repatriates from Baltic
States and Eastern European countries, as well as from the USA, the UK,
Canada, Australia, France, Spain, Latin America and Northern Africa, and
other regions and countries.
Hence Jerusalem Municipality
supports the project dealing with the organization of Jerusalem
Communities' Library (on the basis of JRL), bearing in mind
that such a library can become one of the principal cultural centers not
only for all Jerusalem communities but for the whole country as well.
Besides, in JRL
the following new departments are to be opened in the nearest future:
- Department of Children's
Books;
- Department of Scientific
and Technical Books;
- Department of Textbooks;
- Department of Books for
People with Impaired Vision.
